Attack on Dhaka-Rampal Long March: 22 Injured UNB, Bagerhat

At least 22 participants of the Dhaka-Rampal long march were injured in an attack by miscreants near the Bangladesh-India Friendship Power Project site in Rampal upazila on Friday.

According to the organizers, a group of 40–50 people attacked them around 1:00 PM while they were preparing for a rally in the area.

The long march was organized by Moulik Bangla, a citizens’ platform, which began its journey from Dhaka on August 6. The march aimed to demand the cancellation of the coal-fired power plant project in Rampal, citing environmental concerns.

Opu Silam Dwip, General Secretary of Moulik Bangla, said he was among those injured in the attack. He stated that the attackers snatched laptops, cameras, mobile phones, and wallets from the activists.

When contacted, Bagerhat Superintendent of Police M. Nizamul Haque Mollah said that a minor clash occurred between the marchers and local residents as the procession entered the area.
